Ricki Gafter is a self-taught fiber artist creating one-of-a-kind silk sculptures that blend color, texture, and form. Drawn to textiles—especially silk—she hand-dyes and paints her materials using gutta and serti techniques, along with Shibori and Katazome resist methods.
Each piece begins with hand-dyed silk noille and is shaped using a coiling technique inspired by Native American basketry traditions. Through wrapping, stitching, and intuitive construction, Ricki builds sculptural forms that feel both organic and expressive.
Her work is whimsical, tactile, and entirely unique—inviting a closer look at the beauty and versatility of silk as fine art.
