About

Ricki Gafter is a self taught artist who is drawn to textiles. She paints on silk using both gutta and serti techniques, and dyes silk using the Shibori and Katazome methods.

In 2020 Ricki began experimenting with weaving vessels from dyed silk. Combining her love of color and form, she began creating 3 dimensional shapes with the dyed fabric, letting the movement of the color guide the creation of the shape. The result is a collection of imaginative and whimsical textile vessels made of silk.

Ricki draws inspiration from many artists, particularly Jackie Abrams, Larkin Van Horn, Ferne Jacobs as well as Native American Basketry.
